Is Three Wheeled Buggies The Best There Ever Was?

Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're looking for a buggy run around in or a nifty stroller to tackle the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.

For a smooth ride, go for a pram that has air-filled tyres and look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are prone, however to punctures. Make sure you have a repair set.

Sturdy frame

Recent figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled buggie - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sanity is in a decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, while also looking elegant and easy to push.

The general principle is that the larger the wheels are, the easier it'll be for your buggy to deal with bumpy ground and rough pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy on an infant and a 3-year-old child and found it to be extremely robust. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it is solid to push and is very stable when you're on rough terrain. The tyres, which are inflatable and need to be pumped up occasionally and have a suspension built-in. This was extremely comfortable for my children.

Another thing to take into consideration is the size of the seat and shape. You want the seat to be big enough to allow your child to be at ease and to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have an option to lie flat completely while others allow an adult facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road or wet walks. It can be used as a one-person unit from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth to age 4. It comes with a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a huge cushioned seat. Storage options are also great with a large basket and zip pockets on the hood and an extra pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with larger diameter

Larger wheels means that your buggy will have more stability on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also allow you to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with swivel front wheels to aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with the speed at which they can be pushed. This is also useful if you hit trees or a kerb. The front wheel will lift slightly to avoid hitting it.

Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to handle a wide range of terrains.  3 wheeler pushchair  are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. However, they're prone to punctures so you'll need a repair kit, spare tube, and pump on hand.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are among our top 3-wheelers. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles" and can easily go up and down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that, in her words "smoothes out bumps very effectively".

The downside of having larger wheels is that they can make buggies quite large and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This is a problem if you are using it as a jogger, or need to fit through doorways that are narrow when out and about. Many models have compact folding options, which allow you to remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to manoeuvre

A three-wheel buggy can be more comfortable to drive with a child. The way they are built ensures that the front wheels turn at a quick pace and are incredibly easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for difficult terrain like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

3 wheeler pushchair  tried out a three-wheeler with her infant and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain with the swivel rear wheel being especially helpful. I was also amazed by how well it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was very stable for descending or on a rough terrain."

The only downside of this amazing maneuverability is that the 3 wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean that it can be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to be aware of if you live in a urban area. If this is the case, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better option for you.
